Abstract
Our current data rich environment provides unprecedented opportunities as well as research challenges in decision making for systemsdesign and operational improvement. The development of novel data fusion methodologies is currently very relevant, and will provide a long lasting future impact in industrial and systemsengineering. This talkwill provide an overview of my ongoing data fusion research. The basic concepts in data fusion research will be introduced with the emphasis placed on promoting the integration of different data and methods into a cohesive entity to enable effective decision-making. Examples of methodological developments and their applications in both manufacturing and service industries will be discussed to illustrate the characteristics of data fusion research and to emphasize the need for multidisciplinary research and system integration efforts.

Jionghua (Judy) Jin is a Professor and Richard C. Wilson Faculty Scholar in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan (UM). She is also the Director of Manufacturing Program in the Integrative Systems and Design Division at UM. She received her BS and MS in 1984 and 1987 in Mechanical Engineering at Southeast University (Nanjing, China), and her PhD in 1999 in Industrial and Operations Engineering at UM.
 
 
Dr. Jin’s research focuses on data fusion and system informatics for system innovation and quality improvement. Her research has been broadly applied in both manufacturingand service industries such as automotive, metal forming, solar cell manufacturing, medical clinical decision support, and intelligent transportation systems. She has received numerous awards including nineBest Paper Awards since 2005, the Forging Achievement Awards from the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation in 2007, the NSF CAREER Award in 2002, the prestigious Presidential Awards (PECASE) Award in 2004, etc. She is currently a Departmental Editor for IIE Transactions and an Editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering, and was an Associate Editor for Technometrics in 2009~2012 and for Journal of Quality Technology in 2007~2009, and was the Vice President of INFORMS-InternationalActivities in 2010~2013, and the President of QCRE (Quality Control & Reliability Engineering Division) in IIE in 2007. She is a Fellow of IIE, a Fellow of ASME, an elected senior member of ISI, a senior member of ASQ, and a member of IEEE, INFORMS, and SME.
